What is Valida?
When natural cellulose fibres are mechanically processed to their smallest components, they become highly fibrillated, creating a material with an extensive surface area. Sappi brands this fibrillated cellulose as Valida.
Valida’s natural cellulosic structure enables excellent binding to other cellulose-based substrates.
As a stand-alone application, Valida's fine fibres fill macropores and evenly coat surfaces, increasing material density, smoothing textures, and minimizing defects.
When combined with barrier actives, Valida ensures uniform dispersion, reducing micro-agglomeration and enhancing overall system performance. It also maintains low viscosity and exhibits excellent rheological recovery, minimizing coating penetration and improving application efficiency.
Product benefits
Enhanced density and surface quality of fibre-based substrates.
Optimized barrier performance through uniform dispersion and suspension of active ingredients.
Improved coating application with superior rheological recovery post-application.
Preserved mono-material integrity when used as a stand-alone solution.
Application and Uses
In barrier applications, Valida has demonstrated its effectiveness in molded fibre and food packaging.
Molded fibre
When incorporated into fibre pulp, Valida optimizes porosity, creating a mechanical barrier against water, grease, and oxygen.
Food packaging
Valida enhances the performance of barrier additives while forming a smooth, uniform surface on the substrate.
