Sappi Maastricht Mill is located in the Netherlands along the banks of the Meuse river. The mill specialises in producing high-quality coated graphic paper and packaging solutions – and has become noted for its premium coated paper products such as those used for luxury magazines, brochures and high-end packaging.

At Sappi Maastricht, energy efficiency and sustainability are at the core of our operations. We are committed to optimising our energy use while reducing our environmental impact, ensuring that our paper production is both responsible and resource-efficient
Our mill operates with a highly efficient energy system, combining steam, electricity, and heat recovery to maximise efficiency and minimise waste. We continuously invest in modern technology and process innovations to further reduce our energy consumption and improve sustainability.
Additionally, we actively contribute to grid balancing by adjusting our energy usage in response to fluctuations in supply and demand. By participating in demand-side response programmes, we help stabilise the energy grid and support the transition to a more renewable and flexible energy system.

More about the mill
Maastricht Mill produces graphic board and packaging board in grammages ranging from 160 to 450 g/m². We supply our paper in rolls of various diameters and sheets in a wide range of formats, tailored to market needs. Our paper is available with either single-sided or double-sided coating.
With a production capacity of 260,000 tonnes per year of coated woodfree paper and board, Maastricht Mill meets the highest quality standards, ensuring an efficient printing process. Our graphic board is ideal for magazines, brochures, and catalogues, while our packaging board is perfectly suited for high-end packaging, where printability and processability are key factors.
Our company-wide commitment to safety is embodied in the slogan “Safety Starts With Me” – and exemplified by the fact that we achieved two million hours without a lost time injury at Maastricht Mill in 2024.
This achievement brought recognition in the form of a Platinum Award for outstanding safety performance – and was made possible only by the dedication and vigilance of all our mill employees in maintaining the mindset to avoid incidents.
